MOON/GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE movie reviews...

MOON...I'll give this 3 out of 4 stars...it was very good and kudo's to a great performance my Sam Rockwell...While it definitely took a lot of concepts you've seen before it was it's own movie and would recommend seeing it in the movies for 3 reasons...(please note this is a thinking man/womens Sci-Fi flick not a CGI fest w/o a story)

1) Sam Rockwell's performance
2) The shots of the moonscape were very cool...
3) So they keep making movies like this...straight to DVD movies generally SUCK...

One question...the facility on the moon was pretty big...why was his bed soooooo small??? Maybe it was outsourced and built by a Japanese conglomerate?

Also, the actress that plays Sam Bell's wife...pretty HOT...

The Girlfriend Experience...This gets 2 1/2 stars...I did like it better then I expected to...and the lead actress Sasha Grey who plays a high end escort in the movie was pretty good (she is a porn star...or so the write-ups I've read say...I may need to check out her "body" of work). This one you could wait for DVD because this could be a HBO or Showtime movie. It is not in chronological time...which for certain elements of the story worked but for others not as well...I would like to see a Directors Cut with most of it in chronological order...I would break the movie into three parts...

Beginning - A lot of vapid shallow characters talking about nothing...wasn't sure where it was going

Body of movie - it started getting pretty funny...wasn't expecting that and it was good...

Ending...this is where being all over the place didn't really work...didn't ruin it...but I would have done it differently...

This for the record is a VERY NEW YORK centric movie especially catching the here and now... her girlfriend looks like every other girl in NY...constant designer name dropping, scenes shot in plenty of restaurants you know or have walked by...and constant harping on the state of the economy and the upcoming election (it takes place Oct/Nov of 08)

A Twitter in Iran...

It's looking like the the Iranian Revolution of 2009 is going to do for Twitter what "global warming" did for Al Gore...make them rich...

More importantly...I've read & heard on numerous news sources that many if not most posts are not in Farsi (the primarily language of Iran) but in ENGLISH...hmmmm think they are trying to get noticed & reach out to someONE...maybe even the ONE....???

Also, don't forget to wear Green today to support our young Iranian Brothers & Sisters challenging the Mullahs & their failed policies of a bygone era...the 70's....

32 laps...

Sometimes...you move forward by miles...sometimes by inches...I'm finding that once I get past 12 I can keep going...but since I'm doing free weight workouts in the afternoon I don't want to totally exhaust myself...looking forward to 50+

Mr President...Nationalize Sports!

Dear President Obama,

While I understand that you have a fair amount on your plate right now between nationalizing Health Care, the Auto Industry, deconstructing Wall St, N. Korea going ballistic, & Ambajamba-Sbag winning a landslide victory in Iran ( face it you're jealous...85% voter turn out & a 65%+ win...you got your work cut out for you in 2012 to beat those numbers)...I will implore you that maybe you take a look at what we are paying juvenile delinquents to throw/catch/shoot a ball & how much it costs a regular guy/girl/family to actually see a game...

Do we really need to pay someone gifted with fast twitch muscle fibers & incredible hand-eye coordination 10's of millions of dollars to play a game?!? (I am big sports fan for the record)...most of these guys couldn't land a job making six figures doing anything else (in this current economic environment probably couldn't land a job) If they were paid $100K per season plus bonuses (reasonable ones...not like the fat cats on Wall St get) how many would say no to it? Less then 1% if any...instead we pay millions to morons who shoot themselves in the leg in public, drunk drive, commit "manslaughter" while doing so etc... Of course it''s not all of them by any stretch...many are solid citizens that work hard like the rest of us...but again...they are playing a game...if they got paid what I suggest they can use the fame for their post careers like the smarter ones have (Roger Staubach is a great example)

To put it in perspective if I were to take my Niece & Nephew (& brother, I don't think I'm allowed to take them out alone until they are both over 30) to a movie it costs at best $50.00 with gas, food etc...factored in..the same day at a sporting event...$500 bucks easy...the seats are full of fat cats (see Wall St bonuses) not fans...do we really need $2,500 seats (reduced to ONLY $1,250) to see a game so we can play someone $5 million for a few months...

If anyone can do this it's you...you're the President, everyone loves you (Well almost, not sure about Dear Leader, The Mullahs in Iran, Brown, Sarkozy, Netanyahu...) you're a Sports fan & you're already nationalizing every business anyhow...bring sports back to the fans...you can do it...I HOPE...

Laps...

up to 30 laps now...when I started them yesterday I didn't think I would get too many in...felt a little shot from all the mint juleps from Sunday...but then after about 10 I caught a second wind...I could have done more...but wanted to do a free weight work out later...which I did... & feeling it today...

Captain America 600: Reborn

For those few of you who didn't run out to your local comic book store to pick up Captain America 600 which kicks off the REBORN storyline...it's been all over the news...so the eventual return of Steve Rogers should be no shock. The reason I write this is that while the Death Of Captain America has been a great story this far...I'm kind of sick of the comic book industry killing off major characters & then just having another character pick up their mantle. While this story has been great others not so...& I've yet to see another character take over by putting on the costume & them living up to that character...

Why you ask...because the hero is the man behind the mask NOT the costume...Batman is who he is due to Bruce Wayne's trauma of watching his parents gunned down before his eyes, Captain America due to Steve Rogers risking his life in an experimentation to become a super-solider to fight the Nazi's & he endures by being a man out of time with the values of Greatest Generation living today, Hal Jordan's trauma of witnessing the loss of his father in a test flight is what makes him fearless...etc... If they really want to kill off a character then kill one off that will not kill their sales & let the effects of his actions carry on in future story lines...

To put it in perspective in real life...my Father passed away 5 years ago. In many ways he was a hero to me. He didn't win any wars, invent anything or cure anything...but he lived a good life & had a positive influence on many. He was a good husband, father, friend, co-worker, neighbor etc... maybe if more people were like him we would all be better off. He's gone now. Nobody by putting on his costume which for the most part consisted of his polarized glasses, SuperDad t-shirt, Banana Republic cargo pants, Velcro sneakers with a load of pens & his spyderco knife as his gear...nobody is going to replace him...not I, my brother, uncles, cousins, anyone...yet his influence on our lives is what makes us the men we are today...we carry his mantle by using the lessons he taught us in our daily lives...it's what keeps him alive...

So next time instead of killing off a character just to bring him back & drive sales...kill off a character...keep him dead & let the all the things he did throughout his various story lines have influence on his world & let his actions & deeds provide motivation for his cast of characters...or at the very least never kill off Steve Rogers, Bruce Wayne or Hal Jordan again...

Survey on Domestic Agenda

Please note...the attached survey is from the GOP & it does ask for contribution. You do not need to contribute to take it nor do you even need to submit it...but regardless of your politics you may want to read & take the survey...answer it however you feel & believe...Q 14 was my favorite...

Big Apple Bourbon Garden 09

Yes...yes I know it was the Big Apple BBQ...however due to the lawn being closed & the huge turnout even with the use of a friend's FASTPASS the lines were still huge...so after a chopped whole hog sandwich from The Pit (NC) I had a pulled pork sandwich from Big Bob's Gibsons (Memphis) & Brisket from Wilsons (CT) we hit the Bourbon Garden (shout out to JP for hooking us with the FASTPASS but more importantly getting us back into the Bourbon Garden) where we enjoyed many a fine Mint Julep while listening to The Crooners. Check them out...they are awesome...aside from shotguns & southern girls...nothing goes better with good Bourbon then the music of http://www.thecrooners.com/

Democracy In Iran

For those of you following this...this is huge...somehow a country with a population that is young & less then happy with their current administration saw the largest turnout in voter history (85%) vote overwhelmingly (65%+) for the incumbent...even beating the competition in their power-bases...in other words not only was this rigged...but the idiots in charge were too stupid to even make it look good.

Also, cell phone reception & Internet access went down across the country right after the election...what a coincidence...

If Iran is ever going to change for the better...which I hope they do...it's going to have to come from within...let's hope we are watching a home grown internal revolution a long time coming...
